Boost Your Home’s Curb Appeal with these Tips

If your Northern Virginia home’s curb appeal is looking a bit dull or dated, there are a few things that can add value and boost its curb appeal. This can be very important if you’re planning on putting your home up for sale. An excellent first impression can draw buyers in to see its interior, while a house with flaking paint and an overgrown front yard is usually a turn-off.

Read on for five steps to boost your home’s curb appeal!

Landscape: How’s your front yard looking? It’s likely the first thing visitors or passersby will notice. If you want to improve its appearance, make sure your landscape is neat and not overgrown or overrun with dead limbs or trees. For color and interest, trim trees and shrubs, pull weeds, and plant flowers, including annuals and perennials. Make sure your lawn is looking lush, green, and regularly mowed. Clean-up: Your home’s facade and hardscapes, like paths and terraces, should look clean. Mold, mildew, dirt build-up, and spiderwebs can make your home look run-down and dirty. A professional (and regular) power washing is how to keep things looking clean. Also, make sure your windows are clean! (We do power washing, so give us a call to set up an appointment.)Fresh paint: A fresh coat of paint can completely transform a house. Conversely, flaking or faded paint can give the impression of neglect or age. Hire professionals (like Home Works) to assess your home’s exteriors and provide an estimate on repainting. A fresh coat of paint can add value, whether the house needs total repainting or just a few areas. Could your front door use a fresh coat of paint? How about your garage door?Styling: Your home’s exteriors should be as stylish as its interiors. By adding a few pieces, you can elevate its exterior style. Consider adding flower pots on the front porch, a bench or chairs, and other outdoor decorative items. Consider updating (or at least cleaning) outdoor light fixtures and front door hardware.
